What I do, where I work
I am the exhibit developer at the Science Museum of Minnesota. I am currently developing Emerging Infectious Diseases, a traveling exhibition that explores the relationships between pathogens, humans, and the changing environment, Wild Music, a traveling exhibition that investigates the many parallels between human music and musical sounds of the animal world, and NISE Net, a group of partners working together to exhibit nanoscale science, technology, and engineering.

More about me
Mrs. Mensing-Solick began her experience at the Science Museum as an exhibit development intern in 2004, contributing to exhibit components for the National Canal Museum and various other projects. She was hired as an exhibit developer the following spring. Rene previously worked for several years as a wildlife biologist, studying a diverse array of animals (marine mammals, birds, bats, prairie dogs, sea turtles, and insects) in a variety of habitats across North and Central America. She chose to pursue a career in exhibit development because it combines her interests in science, education, and art. Rene earned an MFA in Museum Exhibition Planning and Design from the University of the Arts in 2005, and a BS and BA in Wildlife Biology and Applied Arts from The Evergreen State College in 1998. She also holds a Certificate in Design from the Alberta College of Art and Design. She draws on her experiences and training as a scientist and artist to conceptualize creative exhibit ideas and communicate them effectively to a broad audience.
